A landmark review by the World Health Organization has shown that a diet high in fibre can not only reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes, colorectal cancer and early death but it can help you lose weight too. It is further evidence that low carbohydrate diets may help you shift the pounds in the short term but they rarely work as a long term solution. It's easier than you think to switch to wholegrain pasta, rice and bread. Did you know that a handful of nuts and seeds a day is all that is needed to help you on your way to your recommeded daily fibre allowance? These can be added to cereal in the morning, as can banana, which is far from boring. If you like your breakfast plain, then why not try a seedy salad instead? Hate seeds? a baked potato, including the skin eaten with a delicious filling for lunch contains a lot of fibre too.
