Fibre Fastastic

A landmark review by the World Health Organization has shown that a diet high in fibre can not only reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes, colorectal cancer and early death but it can help you lose weight too. It is further evidence that low carbohydrate diets may help you shift the pounds in the short term but they rarely work as a long term solution. Health is not about quick fix solutions, it's about balance. Low fibre often means high sugar which we know isn't beneficial.

It's easier than you think to switch to wholegrain pasta, rice and bread. Did you know that a handful of nuts and seeds a day is all that is needed to help you on your way to your recommeded daily fibre allowance? These can be added to cereal in the morning, as can banana, which is far from boring. If you like your breakfast plain, then why not try a seedy salad instead? Hate seeds? a baked potato, including the skin eaten with a delicious filling for lunch contains a lot of fibre too.

Adding nuts and seeds to meals can help you with your fibre intake

Nobody wants to to ditch the foods they love in exchange for the tasteless options but honestly, there are so many healthy foods out there that taste great and once you start to change your habits and see the results, not only physically but mentally, you will want to continue. There is nothing to say you can't have the occasional sweet treat either.

Reflexology is a great way to start your journey towards a healthier lifestyle. The balance it brings helps you to focus on your aims. The relaxation it brings to an often stressful life can also be the missing part of your life that you didn't know you needed. Don't believe me...give it a try!
